The old-school route, and still the most reliable. A dedicated box does one job, does it well, and never updates itself into a mess on a Saturday morning.
A MAG, Formuler or comparable box is a purpose-built IPTV receiver. It has no app store to distract it, no background services eating memory and no firmware update that rearranges your menus overnight. Plug it into the television, plug it into the router, and it behaves the same way for years.
The trade-off is that setup works differently. Rather than installing an application, the box is identified by its MAC address, which we bind to your subscription at our end. You then point it at a portal address and it collects everything else itself.
This route needs us. Unlike the app-based devices, a set-top box cannot be self-provisioned from the IBO portal. Message the support desk with your MAC address and we will bind the line manually — usually within a few minutes, at any hour.
It is also printed on a sticker underneath most boxes, which is easier to read than squinting at a television from the sofa.
Send the MAC address to us by WhatsApp or email, along with the email address your subscription was ordered under. We bind the two together and confirm when it is done. Keep the box switched on — it will pick up the change without any further action from you.
These run an Android layer, so you have a choice. Either use the built-in portal field exactly as above, or install IBO Player from the store and follow the standard app route. The app route is generally the smoother one because it gives you the same interface as every other device you own.
Restart the box from the main menu rather than pulling the power — a clean restart lets it write the portal setting properly. On the way back up it contacts the portal, authorises against your MAC address and downloads the channel list. The first load takes up to a minute; every load afterwards is a few seconds.
| Symptom | Usual cause and fix |
|---|---|
| Portal not found / authorisation failed | A typo in the portal URL, or the MAC address has not been bound yet. Recheck both before anything else. |
| Box stuck on the loading screen | No network route. Confirm the ethernet light is on and the box has an IP address in System Settings. |
| Channel list loads but nothing plays | Usually a resolution mismatch. Set the output manually to 1080p and try again. |
| Everything worked, then stopped | The subscription has reached its end date, or the box changed MAC address after a firmware update. Message support with the current address. |
| Guide data missing | Give it one full reboot — boxes fetch EPG data on start-up, and it can lag behind the channel list by a minute or two. |
Prefer something simpler? The Fire TV Stick guide and the Samsung and LG guide both avoid manual binding entirely. If you have not subscribed yet, the plan ladder starts at £6.99 for the introductory month.
